Advent calender

1. December

The first Christmas card in the advent calendar is from 1944 and came from friends living in Álafoss a small village in the nearby of Reykjavik. This was the year of the founding of the republic of Iceland and the photo on the card shows how the people in Álafoss celebrated their first president.

Einar Jónsson became 70 this year and the health started to decline. He and Anna his wife moved from the museums penthouse apartment to a smaller house in the garden because he had difficulties walking the stairs up to the penthouse.
